Delivering for Cook: Shire Woodworking Association Security Upgrade
MEDIA RELEASE
Simon Kennedy MP today announces he has secured a commitment that – if elected this year– a Liberal government will invest in security upgrades at the ShireWoodworking Association’s headquarters in Lilli Pilli.
The Shire Woodworking Club is a not-for-profit community organisation consisting of close to 100 volunteers who give their time to primarily build wooden toys for the SydneyChildren’s Hospital in Randwick, and other local charities that have a focus on helping children. On average the Club donates ~1,200 toys to these organisations per year.
With the Club housing a significant amount of carpentry equipment, as well as recently being targeted with graffiti and anti-social behaviour, this funding will support the installation of lights and security cameras to keep the site safe. This investment will improve the safety and security of the facility for its members, and ensure they can continue their charitable activities long into the future.
Simon Kennedy said: “The Shire Woodworking Club is a local institution that supports local children and the Sydney Children’s Hospital. The club also provides a great way to learn about woodworking, but also acts asa social support group for its members. The club embodies the very best of the Shire.”
“I am thrilled to have secured new lighting and CCTV cameras that will keep the club and its equipment safe. I thank the members of the club for all they do for the local community.”

Roger Walsh, Vice President of the Club said: “We are extremely grateful to Simon Kennedy for his support. This grant will allow our dedicated volunteers, many of whom are retired members of our community, to continue meeting in a safe environment where they can share skills and continue their valuable work for the Sydney Children’sHospital and other charitable causes.
