About Simon Kennedy MP

Simon Kennedy your Federal Member for Cook

Simon Kennedy is the Federal Member of Parliament for Cook, proudly representing the Liberal Party of Australia. Elected in a by-election in 2024 following the resignation of the Hon. Scott Morrison, Simon's journey into politics was motivated by a lifelong commitment to hard work, determination, and public service—values instilled in him from a young age.

Growing up in New South Wales, Simon began his career modestly, working as a check-out clerk at his local supermarket while pursuing degrees in Law and Commerce at the University of New South Wales. He graduated with distinction, laying the foundation for a successful career in the corporate world.

Simon started his professional journey as a graduate lawyer specialising in mergers and acquisitions. He later joined the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he rose to the position of Partner. At McKinsey, Simon co-led the Australian Public Sector and Technology Practices, playing a key role in designing economic and job recovery policies, supporting Australia’s energy transition, and improving the liveability and affordability of cities. He also served as a Partner at Banksia, advising government leaders and CEOs on matters of national significance across Australia, the United States, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Before returning to Australia, Simon spent six years in Washington, D.C., where he advised U.S. government leaders on restarting the economy following the Global Financial Crisis. His expertise also led him to work with various state governments on economic and transportation strategies, and he has guest lectured at the Wharton Business School.

As a Member of Parliament, Simon is focused on advancing the interests of his constituents in Cook, with a particular emphasis on innovation, technology, housing, and improving economic productivity. Outside of his professional life, Simon enjoys spending time with his children, whether playing in the local park or watching rugby league together.
